Measure and light
Elevations, door swings, and how the wall is approached. We note morning sun, lamps, and anything that will sit in front of the painting.
Process
The cartoon is the contract.
Color comes last. First we measure the room, then we draw the mural on the wall at full scale. You approve the drawing before pigment goes on.
Design on paper
Two rounds of drawings against those elevations. Scale, not mood boards. If the furniture line kills the composition, we change the composition.
Cartoon on the wall
Charcoal and thin wash at full size. This is the last cheap moment to move a branch or a column. Sign-off happens here.
Ground and paint
Lime or mineral ground, then color. Cure time is part of the schedule. We leave a touch-up note, not a mystery.
On site
Drop cloths, a ladder, and the drawing at room scale.
A typical residential wall is one to two weeks on site after plaster is ready. Hospitality jobs follow the GC’s sequence. We do not paint over fresh joint compound and hope.
- Floors and millwork protected before charcoal
- Ventilation and cure agreed with the house
- Final walk after the wall has dried, not the same afternoon
Aftercare
The mural has to be cleaned.
